Faith and generosity are deeply connected. True generosity requires us to trust God, not just with our resources, but with our hearts. It’s easy to give when we feel we have more than enough. But what about when giving feels like a sacrifice? That’s where faith steps in.

Giving by fear says, “I’ll give what I think I can afford.” It measures generosity by our human limitations. But giving by faith asks, “God, what do You want to give through me?” It shifts the focus from our ability to His abundance. This mindset is what made Abel’s offering different from Cain’s. Abel gave with a heart full of faith, trusting God would provide. Cain, on the other hand, gave out of obligation, not trust.

“By faith Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous, when God spoke well of his offerings” (Hebrews 11:4)

We often wrestle with this in our lives. We calculate how much time, money, or energy we can “spare” without risking our comfort. But God calls us to trust Him enough to step beyond what feels safe. He’s not interested in the size of our offering; He cares about the size of our faith.

Think of the widow in Mark 12 who gave two small coins. It wasn’t the amount that impressed Jesus. It was her trust. She gave all she had, believing God would take care of her. That’s the kind of faith-filled generosity God honors.

Faith in giving is about putting God first. It’s a declaration that He is our source, not our bank account or schedule. When we give by faith, we align ourselves with His promises, and He delights in showing us that He can do more with our surrender than we could ever do on our own.

Ask yourself today: Am I giving out of fear or faith? Trust God enough to step into generosity, even when it feels like you can’t. You’ll be amazed at how He provides when you trust Him fully.
