We all carry moments that didn’t go the way we hoped. A job falls through. A friendship fades. A prayer seems unanswered. Over time, disappointment can settle in and feel like a heavy coat you can’t take off. Add in rejection and distress, and it’s easy to start wondering if something’s wrong with you.

But the truth is, even the strongest believers wrestle with these feelings. David did. Elijah did. Even Jesus felt deep sorrow and rejection. You’re not weak, you’re simply human.

So how do we deal with the weight of it all?

Start by bringing it to God honestly. Psalm 34:18 says, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” That verse is a promise. When your spirit feels crushed, He draws near. You don’t have to pretend to be okay. You can come to Him raw, real, and tired. Believe me, He can take it.

Second, remember who you are, not based on what happened to you, but based on who God is. Rejection doesn’t change your worth. Disappointment doesn’t cancel your calling. Discouragement doesn’t derail your destiny. Your identity is rooted in something that can’t be shaken.

Next, don’t walk through it alone. Reach out to someone! Let a friend pray with you. Let a mentor speak truth over you. God often works through people to bring comfort, encouragement, and perspective.

Finally, look for where God is still at work. It may be hard to see in the moment, but He never wastes pain. What feels like a setback might be a setup for something better, something more aligned with what He’s building in you.

The valley won’t last forever, and you don’t have to climb out of it alone. God is with you, right there in the disappointment. And He’s not done writing your story.
