Last week we celebrated our nation’s independence! We celebrated FREEDOM! We celebrated the founding of our nation and the sacrifices that made it happen. Independence Day is a time to remember what makes our country great. It’s also a fun day filled with family, fireworks, food, and hopefully beautiful weather.
Part of what we celebrate is our country’s heritage. One Nation, Under God! Ronald Reagan once said, “If we ever forget that we are One Nation Under God, then we will be a nation gone under.”
Freedom in our spiritual lives comes by way of the Holy Spirit, God’s gift to every believer. 2 Corinthians 3:17 says, “Now the Lord is Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” The Holy Spirit is a gift from God, promised by Jesus, to everyone who calls upon His name.
Acts 2:38 reads, “And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
The Holy Spirit is not a gift for only certain believers with certain callings. He is a gift received by every individual that calls upon the name of Jesus. God does not withhold the power of the Holy Spirit from any believer. No matter who we are or where we come from, the Holy Spirit can radically transform our lives.
Acts Chapter 2 chronicles Peter’s first sermon on the day of Pentecost. More than 3000 people came to faith in Jesus that day, and the Holy Spirit entered them all. It happens the same way when we call on His name today. The Holy Spirit enters us as well.
The Holy Spirit is an inseparable part of the Christian faith. That’s why it is so essential that we learn to walk with Him throughout our days. When we do, we will be living in the freedom God desires for us all. Last week we celebrated freedom here in the USA. Remember to let the truth of spiritual freedom resonate in hearts and minds as well.
