Maybe you didn’t mean to drift. Life just got busy. Prayers slowed down. Church became optional. The Bible stayed closed longer than you planned. And now, you feel distant, like you’re out of spiritual shape and don’t even know where to start.
The good news? God isn’t far. He hasn’t moved, and He’s waiting with open arms.
Jeremiah 29:13 says, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” That’s the starting point. Not perfection. Not performance. Just a heart that’s ready to come home.
Getting back into spiritual shape doesn’t mean doing everything at once. It means taking one small, honest step in the right direction. Open the Bible, not to check a box, but to hear God’s voice again. Pray, even if the words feel awkward or rusty. Worship, even if it starts as a whisper.
And don’t walk it alone. Reach out to someone who can walk with you. Join a Bible study. Go back to church. Reconnect with people who will encourage you to grow. God often uses community to stir revival in our hearts.
Also, remember to be patient with yourself. Just like physical fitness, spiritual health builds over time. You may not feel “on fire” right away, but that’s okay! Keep showing up. God honors consistency.
If guilt is whispering, “You blew it. It’s too late,” silence it with this truth: “The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.” (Psalm 103:8). He’s not looking for a flawless comeback. He’s just looking for your surrender.’
Now take the first step. Then another. Your spiritual muscles may feel weak now, but with time, prayer, and His grace, they’ll grow stronger again.
He’s not finished with you. In fact, He’s just getting started.
