I hope you enjoyed the time with your loved ones and friends on Thanksgiving! Did you remember to count your blessings?
Many people know the saying, “count your blessings.” But do we practice it? Even in times of difficulty, God is blessing you with His presence. Thank God for the little things! What is yours? A couple of mine are the smell of fresh-cut grass and the unique beauty of cloud formations in the sky. They may seem trivial, but these things are a blessing to me.
Think less about what’s in this for me and more about the goodness of God. Psalm 103:2 says, “Let all that I am praise the LORD; may I never forget the good things he does for me.” Sometimes, we have an unfortunate tendency to focus on the negative or uncomfortable things in life. But when we subscribe to this pattern, we miss the innumerable blessings of the Lord all around us.
C.S. Lewis once said, “When we lose one blessing, another is often most unexpectedly given in its place.”
No matter where we find ourselves in life, God has surrounded us with blessings. To recognize them, all we need do is open our eyes to His presence. We can place all our struggles, concerns, and pain in His hands, asking Him to cast them away from us forever. When we do, He will help us to walk in a renewed perspective that will transform how we see our lives. Instead of being weighed down by the challenges of life, we will be able to count our blessings!
Psalm 136:1 says, “Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.”
Many may not realize this is not a suggestion, but rather a commandment from the Word of God. God has showered us all with His faithful love, and there is no other proper response than sincere gratitude.
God has brought us freedom, salvation, peace, love, joy, hope, and so much more. Let your heart cry out in thanks to Him and count your blessings!
