Many people in today’s culture will claim that God is silent. I assure you, that couldn’t be further from the truth! We’ve either forgotten how to listen or aren’t sure how to do it.

Jeremiah 33:3: “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”

Through the prophet Jeremiah, God clearly says that if we call to Him, He will answer. Never doubt God’s earnest desire to speak truth, love, and power into your heart. He longs to fill you with good things and empower you in life. His guidance can take you from where you are to where you are destined to be.

But how do we hear God’s voice? How do we know when God is speaking to us?

It starts in your prayer time and reading of scripture. During those times, make time to listen. We tend to fill up time in our daily devotion with a lot of reading or a lot of words. But it’s important to also take time to just be in the Lord’s presence and listen for His voice.

My wife has a plaque in her office, it was given to me, and I gave it to her. It simply says, “Be Still”. It’s a great reminder of this scriptural teaching.

Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still and know I am God”. In the simplicity of those words, you find an important element of hearing the voice of God.

Imagine a conversation we have with anyone else. If they are speaking to us but we are doing something else and not listening, we miss the primary thought they are trying to convey. It’s the same way in our times of prayer and reading scripture in our devotions. If we don’t take time and be still during these practices, we’ll never hear the Lord speak in our life.

Commit to taking the time to listen to the Lord. Try to recognize His presence in every area of your life. Invite Him into your everyday routine. When you do, you can rest assured He’ll show up. The main thing we can do is make time to listen, and God will speak incredible things into your life.
