Billy Joel famously sang the words, “I couldn’t love you any better, I love you just the way you are.”
How can this hit song help us to better understand the way that God loves us? God can’t love us more than He does right now. And He loves us unconditionally, just the way we are.
God doesn’t expect us to be someone we are not before we come to Him. Come as you are. John 3:17 says, “God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.” (NLT) God knows the fallen nature of humanity. He knows that sin has tainted all of our hearts. But He also sees through all that to the beautiful, unique, and powerful person that He created you to be. He created you to love and be loved by Him. Nothing could ever stand in the way of that purpose.
You don’t need to compare yourself to anyone else. You have a special and irrevocable place in God’s heart meant only for you. 2 Corinthians 10:12 says, “Oh, don’t worry; we wouldn’t dare say that we are as wonderful as these other men who tell you how important they are! But they are only comparing themselves with each other, using themselves as the standard of measurement. How ignorant!”
You have been given unique gifts and talents. You honor God when you utilize them for the furtherance of the Gospel. God made you to be a unique individual and He created the vision for who you could become. He did it all out of love and through your personal relationship with Him, He desires to guide you to the fullness of your potential.
Step forward in who God says you are and who he called you to be. You can walk in confidence because God loves you and nothing could ever take that away.
