You have heard it said that Christianity is “not about religion, but about relationship.” What’s the relationship in question? Our relationship with God of course! To thrive in our faith, we must invest in our relationship with God. As we grow closer to Him, we grow deeper and deeper in our faith.

Think about any other relationship in your life. That relationship grows when you share quality time with the other person. If you ignore that person, what do you think is going to happen to that relationship? It’s going to become stagnant, or even worse, diminish. On the other hand, when you invest your time and energy into the other person, your relationship grows by leaps and bounds!

It’s the same way in our relationship with God. 1 Chronicles 16:11 says, “Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.” There is no time or place that God doesn’t want to be present in our life. Invite Him into your day, wherever you are, and whatever it is that you’re doing. He wants to be an active and intimate part of your daily life!

Prioritize Him! Don’t just give Him the leftover time. In Matthew 6:33, Jesus says, “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” Let God and the things of God be the number one pursuit of your life. When you do, everything else will fall into place. He should and deserves to be your highest priority.

Martin Luther once said, “I have so many things to do today, I dare not ignore my time with God.”

It all starts with a practice of daily quiet time spent with God. This is a time to push away all other distractions and focus solely on Him. Put away any phones or devices that might take your eyes away from this quiet time. Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.”

Open your Bible, read, pray, and listen to what God would say to you in that moment. When you make this a consistent, daily part of your life, you will grow immeasurably close to God. He will speak to you, and you will learn to hear His voice.
