February is over! Spring is here! You may not notice the difference in temperatures with all these beautiful Florida days. Spring is a beautiful time. After the winter, the world seemingly comes back to life. In the spring things begin to grow. Sunlight and water facilitate this. The world blooms with color once again. Flowers spring forth, the birds sing their songs, and the world is active once again.

We can liken this process to our spiritual growth. Throughout our lives, we go through seasons as well. There will be times when we are in the “winter” of our faith. We are cold and stagnant, struggling toward a new rebirth. But rest assured, that spark arises, and we enter a new and exciting season of our faith. To make this happen, we need to put forth some effort to grow in our relationship with God!

Psalm 1:3 says, “They [Upright Men & Women) are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.”

To bloom in our faith, we must practice the spiritual disciplines, including but not limited to reading of scripture, prayer, and fellowship. These basic yet foundational tenants of our faith are what it’s all about. When we engage in these practices on a daily, consistent basis, we follow a steady and sure path of spiritual development.

It’s just like the old adage of separating the wheat from the chaff. The chaff is the inedible part of the wheat that must be separated from the wheat in order for the wheat to be used for its intended purpose. In our own process of spiritual growth, we must also separate the wheat from the chaff in our lives. This means that we must remove the traits of the world and trade them for godly ones.

Spring is coming, and it’s a time for new growth. Not just in the world around us, but within our own souls as well. This Spring, make it a goal to draw nearer to God than ever before. You will see wonderful fruit “spring forth” in your life!
